Our air conditioner business began in 1960 with the launch of our first consumer-use window air conditioner in Japan. In 1971 we expanded into the Middle East (Kuwait). We quickly built a reputation as a high quality air conditioner brand that delivers stable performance even in sandstorm-prone regions with ambient temperatures exceeding 50°C. Over the half-century since then, we have successfully established high market shares in Japan, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East, by continually applying innovative ideas and cutting-edge technology to improve the environment resistance of our products—all thanks to our unique structure designs and control technologies which deliver high energy saving performance. We are now striving to expand our sales in Americas and Asia.

As the air conditioner market continues to grow, we will expand our lineup of home and commercial products—from small air conditioners for the home, to commercial air conditioners and multi air conditioning systems for buildings (VRF). We continue to expand and strengthen our air conditioner business by bringing our unique strengths in commercial air conditioner products to an even higher level.

Going forward, we will focus on strengthening our lineup to meet the various needs of each region in the world and bring our element technology (which will play a role in responding to global warming) to the next level, continue to develop energy-saving products, provide our customers with comfortable living environments, and take a responsible role when it comes to concern for the environment.

Research & development organization

We have three technology development centers throughout the world: Kawasaki Head Office, Fujitsu General (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and Fujitsu General Engineering (Thailand). At each center we run durability testing in test environments that simulate extremely hot and cold environments, in order to develop even more cutting-edge technologies. We also continue to invest actively in our development and testing facilities—such as calorimetric measurement rooms for measuring the latest large-capacity air conditioners. In April of this year we reorganized our Air Conditioner Division and completely renewed our development organization in order to continue to create innovative products by promoting the strategic and concurrent development of technologies and products. We will further strengthen and build research and development centers.

Home air conditioners

We are leveraging our innovative ideas and cutting-edge technological strengths to develop air conditioners that provide comfort and save energy.

We have led our competition by being the first to introduce innovative features such as the “Double-blow Flap” (1985) that controls the amount of air being blown, the “Human Sensor” (1988) that saves energy by eliminating unnecessary operation, the “Lambda Heat Exchanger” (1991) that is compact without sacrificing energy efficiency, the “Power Diffuser” (1995), and the “Front Flat Panel” (1999) that allows for more efficient air intake.

In 2003, we were the first in the industry to set the trend for high-end air conditioners that include automatic filter cleaners, with our “nocria” brand of home air conditioners equipped with “Automatic Self-cleaning Filter System” (2003) technology, resulting from our pursuit of customer convenience and the high regard for the ability of our products to maintain a high level of energy saving performance.

Fujitsu General’s signature room air conditioner series is “nocria,” which is “aircon” (short for “air conditioner”) spelled backwards. As the name suggests, the series aims to defy conventional wisdom on air conditioners. After releasing the first air conditioner in the industry featuring the “Automatic Self-cleaning Filter System,” in 2008 we launched “nocria S.” As the smallest commercial air conditioner on the market, it has become synonymous with compact air conditioners. We have also already launched “nocria X,” which features the “DUAL BLASTER” feature that controls heating/cooling and room temperature currents. This provides customers with comfortable heating and cooling that reaches every corner of the room—even with a conservative setting. The unique technologies we have developed with the “nocria” series can even be found in the highly acclaimed air conditioners we sell overseas.

Commercial air conditioners

We continue to expand and strengthen our lineup of commercial air conditioners. Our multi air conditioning systems can connect several indoor units to a single outdoor unit, allowing users to reduce the space required for the outdoor unit. These systems are particularly popular with shops and offices in urban areas in Europe, where consideration must be paid to the scenery. Among strict energy-saving regulations, we leverage the ability of our products to save energy through finely controlling the temperature of each room (in contrast with traditional products which cool the entire building), in an effort to promote adoption of these products in small-tomedium buildings and commercial facilities in the North American market.

Since its launch in 2001, our “AIRSTAGE” series of multi air conditioning systems for buildings (VRF) has continued to gain popularity as we expand the lineup with products that suit the needs of each region, such as Europe, Australia, the Americas, and China. In order to meet the need for features such as excellent energy efficiency, exceptional design versatility, and more comfortable current control, we will continue to strengthen our development of multi air conditioning systems for buildings that integrate our advanced refrigerating cycle technology and comfort control systems, and attempt to expand our share in the world market.
